On 24 June, Hair Corner once again stepped into the community together with the outreach volunteer team from JCI City to launch “City Hair Cut.” This time, we reached into buildings across the districts to provide on-site free haircut services for elderly residents and those with limited mobility—bringing care closer to them, so that those in need can still maintain a presentable look and confidence in a way that fits their daily lives.

Cross-district on-site services｜Bringing support right to elderly residents

For some elderly residents and grassroots community members, living space may be relatively small and mobility may be limited. Therefore, going out to get a haircut isn’t always feasible.

The purpose of on-site services is not simply to “provide a haircut,” but to bring the service to the people who need it most—so each elder can keep a neat and dignified appearance within their own pace and routine.

Even when conditions are challenging, professionalism remains｜Delivering every service with care

During the event, volunteers also faced real-world challenges—for example, hot and stuffy environments, limitations with facilities and equipment, and even situations like power issues or other unexpected circumstances.

Nonetheless, the volunteers maintained a professional attitude, following procedures to complete each service step by step. Even with limited conditions, the team did its best to ensure the haircut process remained smooth, safe, and respectful—so the elders could feel cared for and understood.

Because we know: what elderly residents need is not only a haircut—it’s also being treated well throughout the process, listened to patiently, and approached with genuine understanding.

1-to-1 communication brings comfort｜Cross-generational care made deeper

The haircut process may be short, but it can be an important moment to build connection. During the service, volunteers carried out one-on-one conversations with the elders—learning about their habits and preferences, and also checking in on how they’ve been.

For elderly residents who have long had fewer opportunities for social interaction, these gentle and sincere exchanges can become a rare and valuable source of emotional support.

That’s why City Hair Cut is not only about expanding service coverage—it also makes cross-generational care more tangible and grounded. When grassroots residents face difficulties, there are still people willing to lend a hand. When elderly residents feel lonely, there are still people who sit down, listen, and stay for a moment of companionship.
