This June, Hair Corner stepped out of the salon and into the community. On 22 June, we partnered with Yan Chai Hospital at Choi Hing Road Light Public Housing, providing free haircut services for elderly residents who have mobility difficulties. Many elders who usually find it hard to go out were able to feel genuinely understood and cared for—warmth that comes from being seen and supported.

Elderly people’s daily needs can be many. For many who have limited mobility, getting a haircut is already hard to arrange: it requires time, transportation support, and sometimes consideration of their physical condition or caregiving arrangements.

In addition, some residents may be less likely to proactively schedule hair services due to health conditions, financial considerations, or relatively limited social support. Therefore, Hair Corner volunteers, with the help and coordination of the Yan Chai Hospital team, arranged services in advance through communication and planning—so the elders could receive free haircuts in a comfortable, safe, and nearby location closely connected to their daily lives.

A promise of “looking good”｜Tailored to different needs as much as possible

Hair Corner understands that for elderly residents, a hairstyle is not just about appearances—it’s also about confidence and dignity. Many elders express different preferences based on personal habits, comfort levels with their usual styles, or how they felt with previous hairstyles.

On the event day, volunteers carefully listened to each elder’s thoughts and, while maintaining a neat and presentable look, did their best to meet their expectations for their hair.

We have always insisted on quality. Likewise, our free haircut service is no exception. Each haircut is delivered with professional skills and attention to detail—so that when elders leave the service point, they can feel reassured that they will still look and feel fresh, confident, and dignified.

More direct care through everyday support｜Promoting neighborhood connections

By bringing the free haircut service directly to the housing estate service location, elderly residents do not need to travel or go through extra hassle to receive immediate assistance. This improves convenience and also allows them to participate in activities within a familiar environment—creating more opportunities for social interaction and strengthening a caring atmosphere within the community.

Hair Corner hopes that within just a short time, every elderly resident can feel the warmth and companionship from the community—to know that they are remembered, and that someone is willing to spend time and care for them.
